MANGALURU:
N Shashi Kumar, who took charge as the 13th city police commissioner on Friday, said that
anti-social elements misusing social media will be reined in through regular monitoring.
He said the
police beat system that received a setback due to
Covid-19 pandemic, will also be strengthened. Shashi Kumar, who earlier served as the additional nodal officer for the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)- 112, said that on an average the state is receiving 7 lakh calls per day. He requested people to make use of the service. Launched in Mangaluru about 20 days ago, Dial 112 has managed to bring down the average reaction time from 30 minutes to 14 minutes.
Shashi Kumar said that it is a proud and happy moment for him to take charge as the police commissioner. The good work launched by the previous commissioners will be taken forward, he said, hoping for good public cooperation to improve policing. Strict action will be taken against illegal activity in any form, he said.
Meanwhile, he also assured to consider relaunching the phone-in programme, wherein people can speak directly to the city police commissioner through the phone. However, it is important for officers and cops in all 22 police stations in the city to reach out to the people and address their issues which will also enhance information gathering. “We will work as a team and live up to the expectations of the public in reducing the crime rate and solving law and order issues. We will also pay attention to the problems of the student community as the city has a huge student population,” the commissioner said.
Outgoing commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash, who handed over charge to Shashi Kumar, wished him good luck. “I had a wonderful association with Mangaluru city. I thank the people of Kudla for being extremely communicative and cordial,” he said.
