AMBALA: Within 36 hours of the crime, the crime investigation agency (CIA)-1 of Ambala police on Thursday night arrested two men, who allegedly robbed a collection agent of Rs 9.5 lakh cash after opening fire at him in cantonment area.
Ambala SP Hamid Akhtar said the arrested accused were identified as Digpal Singh alias Deepu of Mandavara village in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and Harjeet Singh alias Guddu of Ramkishan Colony, Ambala Cantt.
The SP added that both the accused were produced before the Ambala court on Friday, which granted their four-day police remand to the CIA-I.
On the complaint of Ranbir Singh, the manager of CMS Info System Limited, a case was registered against three unknown persons under Section 34 (common intention) and 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-54-59 (punishment for certain offences and renewal of licenses) of the Arms Act at Parao police station on Tuesday, December 29.
In his complaint, Ranbir Singh stated, “Our company collects cash from shops and deposits the same. On Tuesday, December 29, our employee Avtar Singh of Munarheri village, had collected cash from NH-1 shopping complex at about 1.30pm and had left for the bank on his motorcycle to deposit the same. He was carrying about Rs 9.50 lakh cash in his bag and when he reached near railway under-bridge from Shastri Colony, three motorcycle-borne youths shot him in his leg and fled with the bag containing the cash.”
SP Ambala Hamid Akhtar said, “During the interrogation, the recovery of cash will be made and the whereabouts of their accomplices will be ascertained. Teams were immediately deputed in the field to trace these accused.”
