Kolkata, Jan 1 (UNI) From toddlers to teenyboppers, the young and the old, all came
out in hordes on the streets of City of Joy to party hard all night long, dine at the best
restaurants, enjoy the chill and fascinating lights on Park Street and celebrate New
Year.
However, the city celebrated a relatively quiet and cautious New Year Eve and most
public places that traditionally attract large crowds on year-ends and festivals reported
fewer footfall.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished
people on the occasion
Taking to his twitter handle, Mr Dhankhar said, " Warmest wishes for a very happy &
joyous new year, free from calamitous troubles, constrains & worries that unfortunately
plagued 2020; City of Joy Kolkata saw those horrifying ten days of collapse of municipal
services and administration paralysis. State suffered in varied ways."
" Wish 2021 a year fructifying Kabi Guru’s vision- “Where the mind is without fear and
the head is held high; Where knowledge is free, " he added.
" Let us overcome misguided refrain of a citizen being “outsider” in our State and
believe in Oneness of Nation in our Preamble of Constitution, " the Governor asserted.
" Pray West Bengal exemplify its enormously rich culture, its essence and intrinsic
spinal strength to secure 2021 elections shun of violence with 'political neutral' stance
of police & administration; people enjoy human rights and administration being
transparent and accountable, " Mr Dhankhar stated.
The chief minister said, “A New year brings new hope.”
“May you have a bright and wonderful new year filled with peace, good health and
happiness,” she added.
