Govt extends ITR filing deadline from Dec 31 to January 10, 2021

New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) The government has extended the deadline to file income tax return (ITR) for FY 2019-20 from the current deadline of December 31, 2020, to January 10, 2021.
As per the press release dated December 30, 2020, the extension of the deadline is for those individuals whose accounts are not required to be audited and who usually file their income tax return using ITR-1 or ITR-4 forms, as applicable.
This is the third time that the government has extended the deadline to file a tax return - first from the normal deadline of July 31 to November 30, 2020, and then to December 31, 2020.
The press release further stated that the deadline for other taxpayers, such as companies etc., whose accounts are required to be audited (including partners of a firm) and/or those who have to submit a report in respect to international financial transactions has been extended to February 15, 2021.
The government has also extended the date of furnishing the tax audit report to January 15, 2021, from the current deadline of December 31, 2o20. The last date of furnishing declaration under Vivad se Vishwaas Scheme has also been extended to January 31, 2021, from the earlier deadline of December 31, 2020.
