Police arrests 2 notorious drug peddlers; recovers contraband in Pulwama

Srinagar, Jan 1 (UNI) Police on Friday arrested two notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

A police spokesperson said following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Reshipora Bunpora in Awantipora. “Police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 2.2 kg of charas from them,” he said.

He said the accused, identified as Gulazar Ahmad Ganie and Bilal Ahamd Bhat, were immediately taken into custody. “Police also seized Rs 50,000 from the accused,” he added.

He said a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. People found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
