Convicted for wife's death

Imphal, December 30 2020: W Tonen, in-charge Session Judge Ukhrul today convicted 42-year-old Themithang Phungchamnao of Langdang village under Section 304 Part-II for assaulting his wife to death on May 2, 2015 .

The judgment was announced today through video conference after it was kept reserved on December 11 after the final hearing.

The case was on against the convict based on a complaint lodged by the father of the victim with the Ukhrul Police Station that his daughter who was married to the convict was beaten to death by the convict in an inhuman manner using sticks.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and died the next day at around 4 am on May 2, 2015 at their residence at Narep Meizailung Ukhrul.

The Investigating Officer had submitted chargesheet against the convict and charges were framed under Section 302 and 34 IPC on September 14, 2017 .

After hearing the submissions, the Court observed that in causing injuries to the deceased the convict had no motive or intention to cause death and the assault resulted purely out of anger and under the effect of alcohol.

The Court announced Themmithang Phunchamnao guilty of offence punishable under Section 304 Part II IPC for causing death of his wife without premeditation not amounting to murder and fixed January 13 next year for sentence hearing.
