Imphal, December 30 2020: Due to lack of dry ice, the sample of the UK returnee student who tested positive for COVID-19 is yet sent to be sent to the NIV (National Institute of Virology) Pune for identification of the coronavirus strain, said sources.

The ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) today instructed the JNIMS authority to send the sample stored in dry ice for durability.

JNIMS with the assistance of Manipur University had searched for dry ice and as none was found, the sample has not been sent to NIV (National Institute of Virology) in Pune.

The sources added that ICMR is sending the dry ice tomorrow via air and the sample will be sent tomorrow for identifying the virus strain.

Meanwhile, a UK returnee has tested negative for COVID-19, the sources added.

It may be noted that the sample of the UK returnee who tested positive for COVID-19 is being sent to the NIV Pune to identify whether the strain of the coronavirus is the new and more contagious strain first detected in the UK.
