Srinagar, Dec 31 (UNI) Police on Thursday arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in the central Kashmir district of Budgam.

A police spokesperson said following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Mirgund in Budgam. “Police intercepted a person at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 90 grams of charas, 43 tablets of banned drugs and two plastic syringes from him,” he said.

He said the accused, identified as Abdul Rashid Rather, was immediately taken into custody. “Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Budgam and further investigation has been initiated,” he said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
