Health Ministry releases communication strategy to support COVID-19 vaccine rollout
- The 88-page document details information to guide national, state and district level communication activities to enable information about COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination process reaches all people, across all states in the country.
- According to the document, the strategy aims at managing and mitigating any potential disappointment expressed by unmet demand for the vaccine or 'eagerness' amongst people and addressing vaccine 'hesitancy' that could arise because of apprehensions around vaccine safety, efficacy apart from any other myths and misconceptions.
- It also aims to provide information on potential risks and mitigate unintended crisis during the introduction and rollout.
Covid dry run: The States/UTs have been asked to ensure physical verification of all proposed sites for adequacy of space, logistical arrangements, internet connectivity, electricity and safety.

States clampdown on New Year events
- In Delhi, curfew would run for two days from 11:00 pm until 6:00 am with gatherings limited to five people even before the shutdown
- Mumbai and other major cities in Maharashtra state have ordered a night-time shutdown until January 5
- Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka have all ordered curfews for New Year

Hyderabad police imposes curbs on New Year celebrations
- Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates have announced closure of all flyovers and certain roads in the interest of public safety.
- The government has granted permission to the Telangana Prohibition and Excise department to allow sale of liquor at retail outlets till midnight.It has also given permission for liquor to be served in bars, New Year events and in-house parties till 1 a.m.

Pan-India Covid vaccination dry run
- Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan held high-level meeting to review the preparedness at session sites for Covid-19 vaccination with principal Secretaries (Health) and other health administrators of all States/UTs through video conference.

Night curfew likely in Goa

China grants conditional approval to its homegrown COVID-19 vaccine
- The approval comes a day after Sinopharm said its vaccine showed 79.34 per cent efficacy and a 99.52 per cent antibody-positive conversion rate in the interim results of the Phase III clinical trials.
- China's National Medical Products Administration's drug registration bureau said earlier that a total of 11 Chinese vaccine candidates are in different stages of testing at home and abroad.
- Beijing Biological Products Institute Co, a Sinopharm subsidiary, said in a statement on Wednesday that interim results show the Sinopharm vaccine is safe and people who received two doses produced high-level antibodies.
- The announcement of China's approval for one of its vaccines came after the US authorised Pfizer and Moderna jabs.
- Britain has approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for use in the UK, with the first doses due to be given on Monday.
