102 kg ganja seized in Madurai; two held

MADURAI: The Madurai district police, Thursday seized 102 kg ganja smuggled in a car and arrested two persons from Theni.
The Melur police received a tip off about large quantities of ganja being smuggled into Madurai.
Following which, a team led by the Melur inspector Charles conducted a vehicular check up in Madurai-Trichy national highway. A car travelling at high speed did not stop when the police team requested. The cops, therefore, chased the vehicle and intercepted it at Chittampatti toll gate.
During the search, they found 102 kg ganja stuffed into smaller packets.
The two persons in the car, were identified as Easwaran, 29, and Mayi, 56, from Rajadhani village, Theni. A case was registered against them under the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances act. They were arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate, who ordered them to be remanded in prison, in judicial custody.
