Two minors held for robbery in Madurai

MADURAI: The Madurai city police arrested two minors aged 15 and 17 for robbing a gold chain and cash from a woman near Avaniyapuram, Wednesday.
The juveniles from Keerathurai were traced by the Avaniyapuram police based on the registration number of the two-wheeler they used during the incident.
Police said G Devi, a resident of Vivekanandar Street near Avaniyapuram was walking at Kaliamman Kovil Street, when one of the accused followed and intercepted her. They robbed a gold chain weighing two sovereigns and cash worth Rs 2,500 before escaping.
They did not wear a helmet or face mask during the robbery.
On being alerted, a police team reached the spot and conducted an inquiry. The CCTV footage came in handy to detect the case.
A police officer said, the gold chain, cash and the two-wheeler have been seized. A case has been registered under the IPC section 392 (punishment for robbery).
