Residents of T Nagar are irked as their request to restore a by -lane parallel to bustling Ranganathan Street for pedestrians has been unrequited for 10 days.

The by-lane encroached with garbage and vehicles in T Nagar.
Chennai: “We sent an online complaint to the Greater Chennai Corporation. But, the Corporation engineers are merely tossing up the issue with one another. We filed the complaint on December 21 and the by lane is yet to be restored,” VS Jayaraman of Motilal Street Residents’ Welfare Association, said.
He added that the by-lane running parallel to Ranganathan Street and Natesan Street is in a neglected condition. It presently serves as a public urinal and garbage dump by the shops functioning there.
“If the by-lane is cleaned up, it can be used by the pedestrians and this would reduce the crowd on Ranganathan Street and Natesan Street. At a time when the Corporation is coming up with various projects ostensibly to provide hassle-free movement for the pedestrians, it is not known why the civic body is allowing the by-lane to remain in such a sorry state,” Jayaraman said.
After sleeping over the complaint for seven days, the local engineer replied to the complainant that the complaint has been forwarded to an assistant executive engineer by assistant engineer of the division 136. Meanwhile, the assistant executive engineer replied on the next day that the same was escalated to another official.
“A few days ago, an official contacted me over the phone and assured me of action. After that, no one took action,” Jayaraman added.
