Latest live news updates: Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled mortars in unprovoked violations of a ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir. In the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara, Pakistani troops specifically targeted mosques and houses in border villages, an Army official said in Srinagar.

In a major development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said it will conduct classes 10 and 12 exams from May 4 to June 10 next year, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Thursday. Practical examinations will be conducted from March 1. The results of the board exams will be announced by July 15.

Several state governments across the country have taken preventive measures to prevent large gatherings on New Year's eve today. Authorities in many cities cities have banned parties and imposed night curfew along with Section 144 to prevent big gatherings.

Contracting for the ninth consecutive month, the output of eight core infrastructure sectors dropped by 2.6 per cent in November, mainly due to decline in production of natural gas, refinery products, steel and cement. The production of eight core sectors had recorded a growth of 0.7 per cent in November 2019, data released by the commerce and industry ministry showed on Thursday.
