Panaji: Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao have extended greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of the New Year 2021.
The Governor, in his message, states that “every New Year is an important occasion for us to look into the past and contemplate the future. The year gone by has been a difficult one because of the outbreak of COVID-19 and most of the year having been spent in fighting this deadly virus. However, with the admirable support and co-operation of the people, the government has been able to successfully contain the infection and loss of lives.”
“Every crisis also presents an opportunity and this was the time when new ideas such as ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Swayampurna Goa’ were born. In spite of the adversities arising from the pandemic, Goa has done well by opening up the economy, providing for the welfare of the people and taking steps to promote tourism. On the occasion of Liberation Day, 2020 Goa has launched a year-long celebrations to commemorate the 60th anniversary of that historic occasion,” he adds.
The Governor further adds that “we look forward to the New Year with new hopes, expectations and aspirations. We eagerly await the production of a safe and effective vaccine that would defeat the coronavirus. Let us resolve that in the New Year, Swayampurna Goa would be successfully implemented, and there would be further improvement in the overall social and economic development of the state.”
“May this New Year bring greater happiness, peace and prosperity to all Goans,” he concludes.
In his message, the Chief Minister states that “New Year gives us an opportunity to search and evolve new resolutions for the coming year. Year 2020 has been quite crucial in terms of everything.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic, being the prime highlight, has undoubtedly given us a very different insight. Let us be hopeful that this difficult phase will pass away as soon as possible, and year 2021 will be filled with cheer, optimism, and good health and usher in progress and development in the state,” he adds.
“I wish each one a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year,” he concludes.
The Archbishop, in his message, states that “as we look back at 2020, our general feeling is that the year has not been good. Whatever the New Year has in store for us, we can make it better by resolving to live more as one human family, with the world as our common home.”
“Fighting challenges like individualism and indifference towards other people’s faith and culture, may we forge ahead to work unitedly for genuine peace and progress in our land, especially in our little state of Goa. As I wish everyone a New Year full of divine blessings, I pray that we may all embrace this ideal,” he concludes.
