Optimism, hope rule conversations amongst 18-34 year-olds at year-end: study

As one of the most challenging years in recent history draws to a close, a majority of Indians aged between 18-34 years are ending the year with feelings of hope and optimism. In a study released by farm-insights a new age consultancy offering insights and analytics, powerd by Talkwalker, year -end sentiment analysis obtained from online conversations across platforms on world wide web.

The outcome of the report was after a methodical pan India listening of conversations across social media and other platforms like news, blogs, forums etc in the past 30 days between the age group of 18 – 24 and 25 – 34 year olds.

Key themes like Sri Ansh, SSR, life without mask, fitness resonated with the audiences across different states in India. It is also noteworthy that within the selected age group, audiences in states of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi were most buzzing in the last 30 days. One of the key takeaways of the report is that despite a tough 2020, most people are ending the year with feelings of hope and optimism. It is also intersting to note that most people want to stay away from negative commentary and arguments on social media in 2021.

The conversation by this age group during the year end (past 30 days) were primarily Neutral with 22% showing a very positive and optimistic mentality in their conversations.

highest Negative sentiment followed by Punjab during their conversations.

Andhra Pradesh showed no negative sentiment with Gujarat sharing the highest Neutral share of sentiment followed by Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The key sentiment driving keywords

In celebrities Sushant Singh Rajput still kept a place in the minds and in conversation of the youth. With @globalssr handle being actively followed and #IAmSanta4SSR was one of the most trending hashtags where people wanted to fulfil one of the wishes from SSRs bucket list.

Big Boss contestant, Rahul Vaidya had the maximum mentions amongst celebrities.

It was very interesting to see Conan Christopher O’Brien, the American television host, comedian, writer and producer, best known for hosting the late-night talk shows ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien lead the conversation in most of the states. His tweet ‘@ConanOBrien: My New Year’s resolution for 2021 is “Spend less time with my family.” also saw a maximum retweets amongst this age group.

While BTS also led the conversation amongst the first group 18-24 in the Non-Indian celebrity category.

Protagonist couples from ‘Ishq Mein Marjawaan’, RiAnsh had maximum twitter conversations, retweets amongst this age group.

The above tweet was also the most engaging tweet on #RiAnsh with an engagement of over 50 shares, retweets.

Narendra Modi, Narendra Tomar (fMin of Agri), Vijay Rupani (BJP) were the political personalities who got prominence in terms of maximum shares, retweets and conversations amongst this age group.

A majority of audiences used Android phones (68%) to conversate and engage.

Hashtags #farmersprotest saw maximum of negative sentiment while #Mannkibaat shared a larger chunk in conversations across all states carrying neutral sentiment.
