Sixth round of talks between Govt and farmers ends on positive note, next meeting on Jan 4

New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI) The sixth round of talks between the government and striking farmers concluded here on Wednesday evening on a positive note after five hours of brain-storming deliberations with the government agreeing on two of the four demands.
The next meeting will be held on January 4.
Speaking to reporters after the discussions, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said there was consensus on two out of four issues between both sides. ‘’There were four points on agenda today out of which two points have been agreed upon.’’

First issue was an ordinance related to the Environment. The unions were apprehensive about farmers being included along with Parali ones.
‘’Both sides agreed to farmers' exclusion,’’ he added.

On the second issue of Electricity Bill, the Minister said farmers feel that if reform is introduced in the Electricity Act, they would suffer losses. They wanted that electricity subsidy given to farmers by states for irrigation should continue.

‘’There was consensus on this issue also.’’

He assured that MSP would continue but said further discussions on the issue would be held on January four.

‘’The Government has been saying that MSP will continue. We are ready to give this in writing. But farmers' unions feel MSP should get legal status. So the discussion will continue on the legal aspect of MSP and other issues on January 4 at 2 pm,’’ the Minister said and hoped that the next meeting would be even more fruitful.

Talks concluded on a very good note which further resulted in the formation of a healthy environment.

He said farmers’ Unions want three farm laws to be repealed.

He said today's talks were held in a ‘’very good environment’’ and concluded on a ‘’positive note.’’

He appealed to the farmers to end their agitation. '’Considering the chilly weather in Delhi, I have requested the farmer leaders to send home the elderly, women and children,’’ he added.
The agitation completed 35 days on Wednesday.
