VAO arrested for taking bribe

MADURAI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a village administrative in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu for receiving a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a man for issuing a patta.
The arrested man has been identified as Sivaramalingam, 51. He is the VAO of V Pudupatti village near Watrap.
DVAC sleuths said that Mahendran of V Pudupatti village approached the VAO seeking a patta for a piece of land he obtained from his father.
Although he produced all the necessary documents, the VAO did not issue the patta. When he insisted, the VAO sought Rs 3,000 as bribe to do the work. Mahendran approached the DVAC. Based on the instruction from the sleuths, he handed over chemical-laced cash to the VAO on Tuesday.
A team caught Sivaramalingam red-handed. A case was registered against him, and he was arrested.
