Singapore starts COVID-19 vaccination for healthcare workers
- Singapore became the first Asian country to start vaccinating healthcare workers against COVID-19 with Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Wednesday.
- More healthcare institutions will follow in the coming weeks, with public healthcare institutions and private hospitals to progressively arrange for their staff to be vaccinated within their premises, The Straits Times reported.
- Elderly persons aged 70 years old and above will get the vaccine shots from February.
First case of UK coronavirus variant detected in US
- The US state of Colorado has detected the first known case of the mutated novel coronavirus (COVD-19) variant originally found in the United Kingdom, state's Governor Jared Polis said on Tuesday.
- Governor Polis said that the health and safety of Coloradans is our top priority and we will closely monitor this case, as well as all COVID-19 indicators.
- After the new variant was detected, the Colorado State Laboratory confirmed and notified the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of the case.
US State Dept approves sale of 3,000 bombs to Saudi Arabia
- The US State Department said in a statement that it has approved a possible sale of 3,000 small-diameter bombs to Saudi Arabia in a deal worth of USD 290 million.
- The State Department said the proposed sale will help to improve "the security of a friendly country that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic growth in the Middle East."
Anglo-Indian women who escaped isolation tested positive for UK strain of COVID
- The Anglo-Indian women, who returned from the United Kingdom to Delhi and later reached Andhra Pradesh by a special train after escaping from an isolation centre in Delhi, have been tested positive for UK strain of Coronavirus, said Katamneni Bhaskar, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Department, Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
- Bhaskar added that there is no evidence of the spread of UK 'strain' in Andhra Pradesh.

- Gujarat police destroyed illegal liquor worth Rs 2.09 crores seized in two police stations of rural Surat on Tuesday.
- Usha Rada, Superintendent of Police, Surat, said this liquor was seized over a period of two years and was destroyed near Bardoli area of Surat.
