Ghaziabad: The number of active
cases of Covid-19 in Ghaziabad went below
500 on Monday and continued to be under the mark the following day. As per the state report, the city had 397
patients on Monday — a 50% drop from 790 recorded on the previous day. On Tuesday, the number rose slightly to 434 cases.
In Noida too, the number of active
Covid cases had dropped below the 500 mark on Sunday (December 27) to 477.
Ghaziabad has been witnessing the decrease since December 10 when the average number of new cases fell below 100 per day. Consequently, the number of
active cases went below 1,000 on December 16. An analysis of the cases this month reveals that the active cases have gone down by 71.6% from December 1, when there were 1,529 cases.
As a result, a majority of the Covid hospitals in the district have been treating a significantly lower number of patients. The health department has put ESIC Hospital on hold after the 76-bed L2 facility saw no new patient for a week.
Of the active cases on Tuesday, 187 patients were in home isolation while 203 were undergoing treatment in private hospitals (63 in ICU). There were 11 patients in the District Combined hospital, while 40 were undergoing treatment at the Santosh hospital.
Sources revealed that many private Covid hospitals urged the health department to permit them to convert at least 50% of Covid beds into non-Covid ones. However, officials are in no hurry and asked the private hospitals to wait till January 10.
Officials fear that the infection may rise due to the celebrations expected in the New Year. At present, there are 14 private Covid hospitals with 1,164 beds, including 211 in the ICU category.
District magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said the administration is continuously monitoring the situation. “Although cases have gone down significantly, we appeal to people not to lower their guard. We have already issued an order regarding the New Year celebrations and will ensure strict compliance.”
Meanwhile, one person died due to Covid-19 on Tuesday. The death toll in the city stands at 102. Also, 59 fresh cases were reported. With this, the district’s tally rose to 25,989. The recovery rate in the city stands at 98% while the case fatality rate is 0.4%. Noida too reported one Covid-related death on Tuesday. A total of 90 persons have succumbed to the virus in GB Nagar.
