The sources further said that in March 2020, nationwide lockdown was imposed to prevent the spread of transmission of coronavirus.
A large chunk of people of Bihar was stranded outside the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had then ordered immediate measures to provide relief and assistance to the stranded people of Bihar. Dedicated call centres were established at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Disaster Management Department, New Delhi based Bihar Bhawan and Bihar Foundation, Mumbai for those stranded outside through which people shared their problems.
On the directives given by the Chief Minister, officials gathered feedback from stranded people in different states and took innovative steps to help them.
More than 21 lakhs of migrants received direct benefit transfer as financial assistance via Bihar Corona Tatkal Sahayta mobile App. More than 1.64 crores of ration card holder families received ration for three months in advance and were also provided financial assistance of Rs 1000.
More than 15 lakh labourers returned to Bihar were quarantined in above 10,000 quarantine centres. Food, shelter and medical tests were provided to all during the quarantine period. After the quarantine period, for those who wished to get employment in Bihar, the Government conducted a skill-mapping survey and assisted them.
Arrangements were made for employment for the returnee workers in different departments. Under the sincere efforts of the Chief Minister, the entire system was continuously monitored and all possible assistance was provided to the stranded people.
