Meghalaya reports 21 fresh cases of COVID and 1 death

Shillong, Dec 30 (UNI) Meghalaya on Wednesday reported 21 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the number of active cases in the state to 184, even as the death toll rose to 139 with a 74-year-old woman succumbing to the viral infection, health officials said.

Meanwhile, 19 more recoveries were reported taking the overall recovery figures from the viral disease to 13,085 in the state as on Wednesday.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the 74-year-old woman identified as as Anita Blah, who was suffering from different ailments, succumbed to the viral infection on Wednesday.

The senior medical official said that of the 21 new cases detected on Wednesday, 16 were from East Khasi Hills district, three in West Garo Hills district and one each in South West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

With 135 active COVID-19 cases and 113 deaths from the viral disease, East Khasi Hills, including Shillong is the worst affected district in the state.

The ten other districts in the state have lesser active cases and fatalities fromCOVID-19.

East Khasi Hills district has so far recorded 8,264 COVID-19 cases, of which 8,016 have recovered from the viral infection.

On the other hand, the recoveries from COVID-19 recorded on Wednesday included 10 in East Khasi Hills district, 4 in Ri-Bhoi district, 3 in West Garo Hills district and one each in North Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district.

So far 2,91,959 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, out of which 2,78,551 people have tested negative for the virus, even as 69 persons were currently in institutional quarantine and 92 in home isolation.

Till date, 77,648 persons from outside have entered Meghalaya, which has 15 containment zones where COVID-19 positive cases have been detected.

So far, Meghalaya has registered 13,408 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 139 deaths due to the pandemic with 1.04 per cent case fatality rate, 184 active cases and 13,085 cases of recovery.
