Pawan Kalyan condemns destruction of Srirama idol, demands CBI inquiry

Vijayawada, Dec 30 (UNI) Janasena Party president K Pawan Kalyan on Wednesday condemned the destruction of Srirama temple at the century old temple at Ramatheertham in Vizianagaram district and demanded a CBI inquiry on the series of attacks on Hindu temples which have taken place during the last one and half years in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Pawan Kalyan condemned the vandalizing of Sri Rama idol at the centuries old Ramathirdham temple located atop the Bodhikonda hill in Vizainagaram district which happened on Tuesday. He pointed out that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has not reacted to the incident so far.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that he was saddened when he got information that some miscreants had andalized the idol of Srirama and took away the head of the idol. “It is a highly reprehensible act. Everyone should condemn the incident”.
“When Srirama temple is being constructed in Ayodhya, Srirama temple was attacked and the idol was vandalized in AP”, he said.
The film actor turned politician said that attacks on Hindu temples and destruction of idols of deities and burning of sacred chariots of temples are being carried out by miscreants for the last one half year in AP.
“The destruction of Srirama idol and taking away of the head of the idol is not a mad act but an anarchic act of communal fanatics. The government did not act tough when the idols of Hindu gods were vandalized in Pithapuram town, and chariots were burnt at Konda Bitragunta and Antarvedi villages", he said.
The government's indifference is encouraging the miscreants to commit such attacks on temples again”, he said and demanded a ‘CBI inquiry’ into these attacks.
Meanwhile, YSRCP MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to send a central team to inquire about these incidents of attacks on temples and destruction of idols and chariots.
He also explained to the Prime Minister about the latest attack on Srirama temple and destruction of an idol in the centuries old temple at Ramathirtham. The YSRCP rebel MP apprised the prime minister that no one has been arrested so far in the attacks on temples.
Meanwhile, the head of the Srirama idol was found in a water pit near the temple and it was retrieved on Wednesday. Large number of devotees thronged to the temple and purification of the temple was being carried out. Chanting of Jai Sriram resonated the temple premises.
The BJP and TDP activists staged darnas across the state in protest against the destruction of Sri Rama idol. They demanded the resignation of Endowment Minister V Srinivsa Rao.
