Restaurant Cooks up a Gold-Plated Burger
December 29, 20(IDEX Online) - A restaurant in Colombia is selling gold-plated burgers to boost business during the pandemic.
Toro McCoy, in the capital Bogota, is wrapping its standard $11 double beef, cheese and bacon burger in 24k gold foil and charging diners $59 for the privilege.
Chef Maria Paula told news media it was a tough job to apply the edible gold leaf without damaging it, before it melted on the burger.
Food outlets are struggling after the government imposed a national coronavirus lockdown from March to August, and seeking novel ways to entice customers.
