Kerala: 18 more UK returnees test +ve for Covid; 3,047 new cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Of those returned from the UK, where a new strain of SARSCoV-2 was identified, 18 have tested positive and the samples of 14 have been sent for testing at NIV, Pune. The remaining four samples will be sent today.
Meanwhile, the results of the samples sent first are still awaited. The testing at NIV is being done to ensure whether there is any new strain of Coronavirus in the UK returnees.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 was confirmed in 3,047 people in the state on Monday as 4,172 patients recovered from the disease. Among the new cases, 2,707 people, including 30 healthcare workers, were infected through contact and the source of infection for 275 remains unknown. As many as 14 recent deaths occurred in the state were confirmed as due to Covid-19, taking the toll in the state to 2,991. In the last 24 hours, 32,869 samples were tested and the test positivity rate is 9.27%.
At present, there are 64,028 patients under treatment while a total of 6,76,368 people have so far been cured of the disease in the state. The total cases have become 7,43,563.
