India has become cautious of China's changed strategy to strengthen its hold in Nepal. China has suddenly switched sides with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Dragon tries not to have new elections there and instead of Oli, Pushp Kamal Dahal becomes a raging PM. At the same time, India wants a fresh election, which will get rid of the anti-India forces. India's hopes, in this case, rest on the Supreme Court and the Nepali Congress.
Indeed, earlier China had given Oli the power to retain the PM. But after the Nepali Communist Party was torn apart and Oli was isolated, he changed the strategy. China has now come in support of Prachanda, the second-largest leader of the Nepali Communist Party. Chinese Ambassador Hou Yankee is continuously trying to save Nepal's House of Representatives from dissolution and to bring Prachanda into command of the government instead of Oli.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party has sent a high-level delegation to Nepal under the leadership of senior leader Guo Yezhou. The delegation met President Vidyadevi Bhandari on Sunday. While on Monday, Prachanda has met Madhav Nepal, Vice President Nandkishore Pun, Jhalnath Khanal, and Bamdev Gautam. These have already been celebrated by the Chinese Ambassador. During this time the Chinese ambassador has also convinced the Janata Samajwadi Party not to dissolve the House of Representatives and to make Prachanda the new PM.
India wants a new election
India wants the House of Representatives dissolved and a government formed after the new election. India hopes that if this happens, the command of the government may come into the hands of pro-India forces instead of China. At present, the Nepali Congress is trying to dissolve the House of Representatives and get a new mandate only to solve the problem. Apart from this, everything depends on the Supreme Court. Significantly, the dissolution of the House of Representatives has been challenged in the Supreme Court.
Qatar briefed PM
Indian Ambassador Vinay Qatar visited New Delhi in Nepal last week. Sources say that Qatar has informed Prime Minister Modi regarding the situation in Nepal. Sources also say that Qatar gave the message of his Nepali counterpart Oli to the PM. In this message, Oli gave reasons for dissolving the House of Representatives.
