MADURAI: The Madurai city police arrested a 39-year-old from Tenkasi for fradulently acquiring money worth Rs 20 lakh from an individual on the promise of doubling his money.
The accused, identified as G Paldurai from Senthiyapuram, Sivagiri, Tenkasi, approached M Puthattan, 50, from Kallidaikurichi, Tirunelveli, a few weeks ago asking him to invest money with a doubling scheme.
Based on the promise, Puthattan paid Rs 20 lakh a few weeks ago. However, the accused did not pay back in the stipulated time. When the complainant approached him, Paldurai demanded Rs 5 lakh more from him.
Puthattan agreed to give the money and met him in a hotel in Madurai city, where he caught the accused with the help of two friends and handed him over to the Mathichiyam police. Based on a complaint a case was registered and Rs 12.5 lakh was recovered from him.
