Four gang members held

Imphal, December 28 2020: At least four members of a group responsible for snatching a gun from sentries guarding Kangvai police outpost in Churachandpur district on December 12 have been arrested, said SP Churachandpur Amrita Sinha in a statement today.

The SP also said that arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

According to the police statement, the 'gang' members arrested so far are Ngulthang Haokip (43), s/o Tonglom Haokip of Henglep, Churachandpur; Haokhojang Suantak @ Marvin (20), s/o Douthang Suantak of Changgoubung, Kangpokpi; Mangmionlun Haokip (28), s/o Letgin Haokip of Mollen village, Henglep, Churachandpur and Paominson Kipgen (19), s/o Late Thienlal Kipgen of Henglep, Churachandpur.

The seized weapons are - two country-made pistols with four rounds and 2 magazines; four single barrel firearms and 33 single barrel ammunition.

Saying that the district police, Churachandpur has been conducting covert search operations at various locations with the assistance of Bishnupur police, Kangpokpi police and Assam Rifles, she added that Ngulthang Haokip was arrested on December 14 for providing logistic support and supplying ammunition to the group while Haokhojang Suantak was arrested on December 26 along with two small arms as he was trying to flee to Kangpokpi.

Mangmionlun Haokip and Paominson Kipgen were arrested yesterday from Urkha Loikhai during a raid, the SP continued adding that various hideouts of the group were also busted during the search operations.
