Probe shoddy beautification work in park, say residents

Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 10A have raised concerns over “shoddy” work carried out by the contractor for the beautification of Rao Tula Ram Park in the sector. They have demanded a probe to ascertain the construction quality and sought the completion of pending work in the park.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) had sanctioned Rs 26 lakh for the development and beautification of the park, which is spread across two acres, and the tender was allotted about two years ago. The contractor, however, didn’t complete the work, residents alleged.
According to residents, the contractor also compromised with the quality of construction by using substandard materials. As a result, the stones used in the walls are falling off at several places and the tiles used in the footpaths have cracked, they said.
Residents also pointed out that many fences are damaged, landscaping work has been left incomplete, and the gate has not been renovated well. They also alleged that the MCG officials didn’t supervise the work being carried out in the park.
Udayvir Singh Yadav, the president of Sector 10A RWA, said, “Neither MCG officials nor the contractor informed us or provided any specification while the beautification project was underway.”
MCG executive engineer (horticulture) Amarjeet Bisla said, “I am not aware about the matter. I will direct the officials to conduct an inspection. If there is any work pending, necessary action will be taken.”
