Gurgaon/Rewari: With many people from Delhi and Gurgaon planning to go to Jaipur, Alwar, Udaipur and Chandigarh to celebrate the new year, Haryana and Rajasthan police have issued a traffic advisory following the blockade of NH-48 by agitating farmers.
More than 6,000 vehicles ply on NH-48 between Delhi and Jaipur. Five points — Kapdiwas border, Dharuhera flyover, Masani bridge, NH-71 cut and Kasola Chowk — have been identified to divert traffic towards Alwar, Bhiwadi and Jaipur in Rajasthan, a senior Haryana police official said. Signages have been put up at the points and traffic personnel deployed too.
Those wanting to go to Chandigarh from Delhi have been advised to take the Farrukhnagar-Jhajjar-Rohtak-Panipat route, added the official.
From the Jaipur side, there will be diversions from five points towards Gurgaon or Delhi. These will be in place at Shapura-Alwar tri-junction, Bansoor cut near Kotputli, Paniala, Jagoowas Chowk and Ghiloth Road in Shahjahanpur, a senior official of Rajasthan police said.
Farmers have been protesting against the farm laws on the Delhi-Jaipur highway at Jaisinghpur Khera, the Haryana-Rajasthan border, since December 13. and then only the lane from Jaipur-Delhi was closed.
The agitation intensified on Friday, when about a thousand protesting farmers marched from Maharashtra via Rajasthan towards Haryana, after which police closed both carriageways of NH-48, including the service lane. This resulted in long tailbacks in Rewari and Alwar districts.
