East Lucas Drive will soon have a recognizable black and white checkered highlight near Interstate 10 as a growing franchise owner adds another Checker’s location to Beaumont.
The new restaurant being built at 4265 East Lucas Drive is the sixth location for Scott Sebastien, a Checkers & Rally's multi-unit franchisee, with another location in Beaumont and four more in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The other Checker’s location is on Calder Avenue and North 11th Street.
Checker’s — or Rally’s, depending on where you’re from — was originally a separate chain founded in Mobile, Alabama, but merged with Rally’s in 1999. Rally’s, which is usually used to brand restaurants in the Midwest and California, was founded in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1985.
The company has been taking advantage of what it calls a “pandemic-proof” model of take-out only service to leverage its 32 restaurants in the Houston market, and is teasing plans of opening another 30 locations in the near future.
