Farmers oppose 'Mann Ki Baat' by clapping, tapping utensils

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Farmers demonstrating against the three new agricultural laws of the Centre on the capital's Singhu border on Sunday expressed their dissatisfaction against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat programme, by clapping and tapping thalis.
As soon as the 72nd edition of Mr Modi's monthly radio programme began this morning, the ryots at Singhu Border started clapping and tapping steel plates, as a mark of opposition.
The peasants had announced on Saturday that they would stage protest against the PM's radio programme in the said manner.
Farmers on the Shahjahanpur Highway and Singhu border also took out a march and tapped the steel plates, while carrying different utensils in their hands and also did sloganeering.
Swaraj India's Yogendra Yadav also took part in this protest, along with the ryots.
''We are clapping and tapping the utensils, to curb the noise of Mann Ki Baat,'' said Mr Yadav.
Mr Modi did not speak of the farmers' movement during his programme, over which the Opposition criticised him, saying that his silence on the issue was surprising.
The Prime Minister talked about environment, wild and stray animals, youth, elderly, self-dependence and other things, but did not mention the ryots, who were agitating in the shivering cold.
After the beginning of the farmers' movement, Mr Modi had said that the government was even ready to talk to
its critics and everyone, but the talks must be based on facts, logic and issues. He had also targeted political rivals for the deadlock between the Centre and farmers' talks.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also urged the agitating farmers to chalk out a solution through talks.
Meanwhile, a proposal for talks has been given to the government by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha on December 29.
