Jaishankar has come to Qatar for the first time as a foreign minister. He met Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahman bin Jasim Al Thani. The two discussed bilateral, regional, and international issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, have spoken three times over the telephone in the past few months. The foreign minister and other cabinet ministers have also spoken with their Qatar counterparts. The ministry said India and Qatar have strong economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties.
Annual turnover of 80 thousand crores between India and Qatar
According to the Foreign Ministry, more than seven lakh Indians live in Qatar. The bilateral trade of both countries in 2019-20 is about 80 thousand crores. The two countries have also worked together to meet the challenges of the Corona epidemic. During this period, despite the ban on normal flights, they also operated flights to return to their respective countries.
There may be talks on the issue of Indian workers returning to Gulf countries

Qatar has recently undergone labor reforms, forcing the Indian workers working there to return in large numbers. In the previous talks of the Joint Committee on Workers' issue between India and Qatar, both sides agreed that both sides would work together to protect the interests of workers and workers.
