In Mysuru and Kodagu, the tourism industry has been affected in an extremely bad way due to pandemic situation. However, it has picked up now, with drop in covid 19 cases and more relaxations in lockdown and rise in people’s movement. The inflow of tourists to Mysuru palace, a major tourism destination of Mysuru, has experienced a rise by 97.5 percent in November compared to June 2020. And it has almost doubled in November compared to October this year.
To quote Mr Nagendra Prasad, “With people planning for vacations during year end, December is a peak season for tourism stakeholders, so we are expecting tourists to pick up further this month. And with vaccination available now, we are hoping for tourism industry to resume to normalcy by April next year, which is another peak season for tourism.”
In Kodagu, Dubare, elephant camp witnessed a record rush in tourist flow with over 2,500 people and huge rush for boating. On Saturday, more than 3000 people were seen at Dubare followed by heavy rush on Sunday as well.
After the restrictions for the lockdown were lifted and tourism destinations and hotels were permitted to open, the occupancy of hotel rooms in Mysuru and which was just 5 percent in June increased 35 percent in the week days and 40 percent during weekends. At Kodagu during week days, the occupancy in high end resorts and home stays has increased to 50 percent and 80 percent during weekends. About 80 percent of the homestays in Kodagu are completely booked. The ones situated at the interiors of the coffee plantations are majorly in demand.
