Centre extends Covid 19 guidelines till January 31, warns about new virus strain

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Amid the rising concerns of new and highly infectious Covid-19 strain in the UK, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday extended existing Covid-19 guidelines till January 31 next year, asking States and Union Territories (UTs) to maintain strict surveillance and caution.

Noting that there has been a continuous decline in the active and new COVID-19 cases, there is need to maintain surveillance, containment and caution, keeping in view the surge in cases globally, and emergence of a new variant of the virus in the United Kingdom (UK), the MHA stated.

In extended guidelines, the Ministry once again reiterated that the 'Containment Zones' will continue to be demarcated carefully and the prescribed containment measures will be strictly followed within these zones.

"Covid-appropriate behavior prompted earlier, has to be strictly enforced and the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) in respect of various permitted activities have to be followed scrupulously", the MHA order reads.

The States’ enforcing agencies have been asked to adhere to guidelines and SOPs issued by the MHA and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), as envisaged in the guidelines issued on November 25 which has to be enforced strictly by States and UTs.
