A 28-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his 51-year-old wife in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram.

51-year-old Shakhakumari was found dead in Thiruvanathapuram's Karakonam area on Saturday.

Initially, her husband Arun claimed that she was electrocuted by the fancy lights which were set up for Christmas in their home.

According to police, Shakhakumari was taken to a private hospital in the early hours of Saturday by Arun.

At the hospital, Arun claimed that she was accidentally electrocuted.

During the preliminary investigation, police noticed bloodstains in the house, which raised doubts about the cause of Shakhakumari's death.

The couple had gotten married just a few months back and there had been marital disputes since the start.

Despite Arun's repeated demand, Shakha refused to give him a divorce.

Arun had once before tried to electrocute his wife but the attempt failed.

He had also planned to usurp his wife's properties.

During police interrogation, Arun confessed that he orchestrated the crime and electrocuted his wife.
