Hamirpur (HP), Dec 27 (UNI) Though the filing of nomination papers for the PRI (Panchayati raj institutions) elections in the district will start on December 31, yet fissures have developed in both the BJP and the Congress party over the selection of the candidates for the Zila parishad seats.
The BJP has already announced the names of its candidates for all the seats but a group in the party has strongly opposed the way, the candidates were selected from the Badsar area of the district. Badsar is the home constituency of former MLA and district BJP chief, Baldev Sharma and names of four candidates from Badsar seat were declared with his consent.
However, Vinod Thakur, the state spokesman of the party and a close pal of the Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur have strongly opposed the selection of candidates alleging that the locals people and the party workers were not taken into confidence while naming the candidates to the press. The pro Thakur group has also released a list of four candidates from the Badsar area and they were bound to create problems for the official candidates if they filed their papers.
The district BJP chief has even refused to recognize Thakur saying that he knew only one Vinod Thakur who was in the Congress party and none else. It’s worth mentioning here that Vinod Thakur had left the BJP before the last assembly elections and had joined the Congress party. He rejoined the BJP once Jai Ram Thakur became the Chief Minister.
Similarly, the Nadaun unit of the Congress party is giving teething troubles to the party as leaders and workers close to local MLA, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhoo are not recognizing those having relations with the District party chief, Rajendra Zar who is the close friend of the state party chief, Kuldeep Rathore.
While the DCC had declared the names of candidates for all the areas it didn’t release names of its candidates from the Nadaun area as they knew that if they declared the names, SS Sukhoo would reject them and once again the show of unity in the party would be in jeopardy.
There are reports that workers of leaders of both parties are going to discuss the dissension in their respective organizations with their state level/top level leadership so that there was no problem to their candidates in the coming PRI and CIVIC body elections in the district, the results of which were bound to play a major role in the 2022 Vidhan sabha polls in the state.
