Covid-19: 66-year-old succumbs, 38 test +ve in Ludhiana

Covid-19 claimed life of a 66-year-old man from Mubarakpur village while 38 fresh cases of virus were reported in Ludhiana district today. The Health Department today confirmed 43 positive cases, including 38 from the city and five from other districts or states.

In Ludhiana district, 20 persons with influenza like illness and three others tested positive for the disease. Besides, 10 persons, who visited OPD, and five others, who came in contact with positive patients, also tested positive for the virus.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Sharma said unfortunately three patients, including one each from Ludhiana, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur districts, succumbed to the virus during the past 24 hours.

Now, the total number of persons, who died due to coronavirus, includes 956 from Ludhiana and 442 from other districts, the DC added. There were 416 active Covid patients in the district at present, the DC said.

Till date, a total of 5,27,773 samples for the Covid test had been collected out of which report of 5,25,815 samples had arrived, the DC added. As many as 4,97,581 samples were found negative while report of 1,958 samples was pending, the DC said.

At present, the total number of coronavirus patients in Ludhiana was 24,596 while 3,638 were from other districts/states, the DC added. “Notably, 23221 (94.40%) patients have recovered from the virus till date. Three patients, including one from Ludhiana and two from other districts or states, are on ventilator,” the DC said.
