Streaming breakthrough: HBO Max hits Roku devices Thursday ahead of 'Wonder Woman 1984' debut
Could it be that Wonder Woman's powers have no bounds?
Just ahead of the impending debut of next week's "Wonder Woman 1984" debut on the HBO Max, parent company WarnerMedia says it reached a deal to bring the streaming service's app to Roku's popular video devices.
Roku devices are the favorite choice for consumers to stream net video services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on their TVs, with 100.2 million viewers, or about 34.6% of all U.S. internet users, according research firm eMarketer. That's ahead of No. 2 held by Amazon Fire TV at 72.7 million, eMarketer estimates.

But since HBO Max launched in May, the service has not be available on Roku devices. It hadn't been available on Amazon Fire TV devices until mid-November, either.
The two parties teased and announced the deal in a cute Twitter thread Wednesday afternoon.

Interest in HBO Max skyrocketed this month when Warner Bros. announced plans to release all of its 2021 movies â including "The Matrix 4," "Dune," "The Suicide Squad," and "Space Jam: A New Legacy" on the subscription service the same day as theaters for no extra cost. HBO Max costs $14.99 monthly but currently has a discount if you pay $69.99 for six months
The movies will be available to HBO Max subscribers at no extra charge and will stream for one month. Last month, the studio said "Wonder Woman 1984" would land on HBO Max on Christmas Day, which is next week.
"âWe believe that all entertainment will be streamed and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct to streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households,â said Scott Rosenberg, senior vice president, platform business, for Roku.
