Itanagar, Dec 26 (UNI) The counting of votes for the Panchayat and Municipal elections in Arunachal Pradesh is underway across 40 counting centres in the state.
The ruling BJP has swept the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) polls by winning six out of the total of eight wards, while the Congress won two, as per the data issued by the State Election Commission (SEC) here.
Among the prominent winners in PMC is former chief municipal councillor Kaling Doruk of BJP.
In Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) out of the 20 wards, Janata Dal (United) won four , while the counting of 11 wards are underway. BJP's five nominees had been declared elected unopposed.
Voting was held for 141 Zilla Parishad constituencies (out of 242) and 1,702 Gram Panchayat seats (out of 8,215), and 23 wards (out of 28) under the two Municipal bodies- IMC and PMC on December 22.
Altogether 6,500 candidates, including 99 for Zilla Parishads and 6401 for Gram Panchayat seats, were declared elected unopposed.
Elections to 110 GP seats were not held due to single nomination rejection or there was no candidate, and the Commission will take a final call after the electoral process of the current phase is over.
The SEC has issued notification for election to the 4-Hawai North ZP seat in Anjaw district and polling will be held on January 11 next.
Electiond to Vijaynagar ZP constituency seat along with 40 GPM had been kept kept in abeyance for various reasons.
