Farmer leaders decide to resume talks with govt, propose meeting on December 29

NEW DELHI: The farmer unions on Saturday agreed to the government's offer of talks to resolve the deadlock over the new farm laws and proposed the next meeting on December 29 at 11am.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions protesting at various Delhi border points against the three laws.
Earlier this week, the government had sent a letter to the farmers and urged them to propose a date and time for the next round of talks.
In the letter, joint secretary in the ministry of agriculture and farmers' welfare Vivek Aggarwal asked the farmers to provide details of all other issues they want to discuss.
Responding to the invitation, the farmers today said they are always ready to hold discussions with an open heart and laid out four-point agenda for the meeting.

The farmers said that modalities for withdrawal of the three farm laws and legal guarantee for MSP should be part of agenda for talks.
Previous five rounds of talks between the government and the unions have failed to break the deadlock with the farmers insisting on repeal of the three laws.
