MANGALURU: A corona warrior was assaulted by the wife of a Covid-19 positive person at Kutrupady village in Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.
Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Rajeevi B S was assaulted with a broom by the wife of an infected person on December 21. District health and family welfare officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy said that while a case has already been registered at the jurisdictional police station, the department also has taken up the incident very seriously.
“Our Asha worker had been to the house of the infected person to collect details related to primary contacts and to provide information about quarantine. However, the Asha worker found many relatives visiting the infected person in his house. When the Asha worker advised the family not to allow visitors, the wife of the infected person assaulted the health staff using a broom. A complaint has already been filed. We will pursue the case since it is a serious issue that a health worker has been assaulted. Such instances will demoralise health staff working in the department,” Dr Bairy said.
Kadaba police said a case has been registered and the investigation will begin once the accused, infected with Covid-19, completes his quarantine period.
