Republic TV, former BARC officials involved in TRP scam: Police

Republic TV, former BARC officials involved in TRP scam: Police

Mumbai, Dec 25 (UNI) The Mumbai Police on Friday made explosive statements in the TRP scam, alleging that the Republic TV manipulated the viewership data while former officials of the ratings agency BARC also colluded in the crime.

The Times Now channel, which the Republic TV eyes a rival, was dislodged from the number one position by manipulation of data, it added.

Addressing a press conference, Joint CP Milind Bharambe stated, “The new report by the BARC had made stunning revelations about TRP manipulations.”

He continued, “These manipulations have been going on from at least 2016 to 2019. They’ve analysed some data but the volume being quite huge, they analysed the data of only around 44 weeks in detail, especially about the genre of English news and Telugu news where they found manipulation to great extent.”

“In some cases, the ratings appeared to be pre-decided,” he mentioned, adding that a cartel of some of the top ex-officials from the BARC were involved.
