New Delhi: The R value for Covid-19 in India increased to 0.90 from 0.86 this week. The number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours reduced to under 10 lakh, although this did not result in any change in the positivity rate.
Throughout the week, the number of daily cases remained under 25,000 while deaths were under 400.
R value
The R value increased to 0.90 this week, after falling to the lowest value of 0.86 last week. R value represents the number of people one patient can infect. The value must be sustained below 1 for an epidemic to end.
Daily cases
In the last 24 hours, India reported 23,067 new cases of Covid-19 across the country. Daily cases have remained under 25,000 throughout the week.
Active cases
Active cases in India fell to 2,81,919 Friday. This is the first time since July that active cases are under the three-lakh mark.
Number of deaths
In the last 24 hours, 336 deaths were reported from across the country. Throughout this week, the number of deaths have remained below 400. The total coronavirus death toll in India, since the beginning of the pandemic, now stands at 1,47,092.
Mortality rate
At 3.19, Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) remained the highest in the country. Meanwhile, Maharashtra — the state with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths — has the second highest CFR of 2.56.
Sikkim’s fatality rate reduced further to 2.20. India’s overall case fatality rate is at 1.45.
Daily tests
In the last 24 hours, the number of tests conducted across 1,200 government laboratories and 1,081 private laboratories in India stood at 9,97,396.
A total of 16,63,05,762 tests have been carried out in India since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate
Despite the fall in the number of tests, the positivity rate remained the same as Thursday, at 2.3 per cent. Overall test positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, stood at 6.1 per cent.
Recovered cases
As many as 24,661 Covid-19 patients were discharged from across the country in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic 97,17,834 people have recovered from the infection.
Total cases
India has reported a total of 1,01,46,845 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The highest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra (19,09,951), followed by Karnataka (9,13,483) and Andhra Pradesh (8,80,075).
High burden states
Kerala has the highest number of active cases in India, which went up to 63,328 Friday.
The state is also reporting a high number of new infections everyday, with 5,177 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Kerala also reported 22 deaths, bringing the coronavirus death toll to 2,914. So far, a total of 7,26,687 cases have been detected in the state.
Active cases in Maharashtra reduced to 56,022. With 3,580 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state increased to 19,09,951.
The state continues to report the highest number of deaths in the country. As many as 89 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, which brings the total Covid-19 toll to 49,058 in Maharashtra.
Uttar Pradesh reported 926 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total case count in the state to 5,78,568.
Of these, 16,099 cases are active, 8,267 people have died due to Covid-19. The state reported 22 deaths in the last 24 hours.
In West Bengal, the active case count dropped to 15,193, with 1,232 new Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours.
As many as 32 deaths were reported in the state in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of deaths in the state to 9,505. A total of 5,43,214 cases have been reported from the state in the last 24 hours.
In Chhattisgarh, 1,232 new cases were detected, while 22 Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Active cases dropped to 15,153, while death toll went up to 3,249.
A total of 2,72,426 cases have been reported from the state so far.
