BHIWANDI: Five days after a 38-year-old woman was found dead at her Biwandi home, her lover, Prakash Patil (59), a Thane resident who retired from a private bank, was arrested on Thursday for the murder.
The woman, Laxmi Bhurla, who worked for a beauty parlour, had been found stabbed last week when her son was away at work.
The police said that Patil stabbed Bhurla for blackmailing him to give her Rs 9 lakh to buy a new house, failing wich she had threatened to tell his wife of their relationship.
After the body was discovered, officials of Bhiwandi city police station, where a murder case had been registered, formed teams who zeroed in on Patil after tracking technical evidence, said deputy commissioner of police Yogesh Chavan.
Patil had come into contact with Bhurla, a widow, three years ago. The two acquaintances had eventually got into a relationship, the police said.
