CADA, NIPCO urge Govt to move higher Court

Imphal, December 24 2020: Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to move a higher Court against the acquittal of main accused Lukhosei Zou in the 2018 drug haul case.

In the memorandum, CADA said that there might have been 'serious lapses' while filing the chargesheet and in the prosecution of the case, and urged the State Government for re-investigation and to appeal to a higher Court for a fair and transparent trial and convict the accused accordingly.

CADA being a forerunner of the movement against alcohol and narcotic drugs, sought the attention of the Chief Minister into the matter at the earliest inorder to bring justice and wished that the CM will take serious and committed steps in the interest of the people of the State, said the memorandum.

Voicing the same demand sit in protests were staged at Ningombam Mayai Maning Community Hall organised jointly by Ningombam Mayai Maning Women Development Association and CADA Ningombam Unit and at Kongba Chongabi by the volunteers of Chongabi Apunba Nupi Lup and CADA Unit Kongba Chongabi.

In a separate statement, National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) urged the State Government to appeal to a higher Court or hand over the case to an investigating agency to restore the faith of the public and to strengthen war on drugs.

NIPCO also demanded a special provision and appoint Additional SP Th Brinda as the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case.
