Chinese President posted a new general amidst deadlock from India

In the midst of a military standoff on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, Chinese President Xi Jinping has handed over command of his army in the region to a new general.

As head of the Central Military Commission (CMC), Jinping appointed General Zheng Dang as commander of the Western Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), which oversees the area adjacent to the LAC.

The state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday that Jinping has promoted four senior Chinese military and armed police officers, including General Zheng.

General Zheng will replace 65-year-old General Zhao Zhang, who was assigned the responsibility of the Western Theater Command during a standoff with the Indian Army in Doklam in 2017.
