Imphal, December 23 2020: Dhanamanjuri College of Science Teachers' Association (DMCOSTA) and Teachers' Forum, DM College of Arts are poised to agitate as the act of the varsity in issuing a recruitment notification for fresh faculties before absorbing the existing teachers of the constituent colleges.

The teachers' bodies in separate statements today said they would be forced to launch a series of agitation from January 2 if the Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) authority fails to fulfil the demand for recognition of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges as the "first faculty" of the varsity by December 31.DMCOSTA, in their statement said they do not oppose the recruitment of 88 Assistant Professors, but the process (recruitment) should be done post settlement of the demand of the existing teachers of five constituent colleges.

Ever since the creation of DMU formally in April 2018, the existing teachers have been shouldering all the duties and responsibilities of a university teacher under DMU helping in the successful and smooth running of the new varsity.

Further, the Internal Structure Committee constituted by the Government to look into certain contentious issues regarding DMU had recognised the contributions of the existing teachers and it had recommended that the existing teachers be first absorbed.

Thus, DMCOSTA along with other teacher bodies have been urging the authority concerned that the existing teachers of the constituent colleges of DMU be given special/preferential consideration and absorbed in DMU before any process for fresh recruitment of teachers, the association said.

The recent advertisement of the DMU authority for fresh recruitment of faculty positions has left the existing teachers deeply anguished and disappointed, it added.

The teachers' bodies during a general body meeting today decided to launch series of agitations from January 2 if their demand is not met by December 31, said DMCOSTA.
