NOIDA: Ten women members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union-Bhanu sat on a hunger strike at Chilla border on Wednesday, to join the other supporters of the outfit who are on a relay hunger strike.
Among those who sat on the hunger strike were the outfit’s Mahila Morcha national president Seema Bhati, national vice-president Anita Arora, national secretary Manisha Som, Gautam Budh Nagar district in-charge Anita Rai and state in-charge Rekha Sharma.
“Earlier, our state president sat on a hunger strike for five days and we also decided to go ahead with the strike. Modiji is not going to be affected by the plight of the farmers. The PM does not have time to visit the farmers even once. The government gave a slogan ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’ but how will the daughter be educated when her father, the farmer is being suppressed?,” Seema Bhati said.
Anita said the UP police had been stopping farmers at various places and on Wednesday, Machhla, the 11 th woman member to sit on hunger strike, was stopped by Bulandshahr police from travelling to Noida. A hawan was organsied at the site.
