NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday notified the new fare structure for auto-rickshaws. Though the auto-rickshaw drivers have been charging the revised amount, which was approved by the city government in March 2019. The Delhi High Court had put a stay in February this year when a petition was filed alleging that the notification issued by the city government was without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.
According to the gazette notification issued with LG’s approval, Rs 25 will be charged for the first 1.5 km and thereafter Rs 9.50 per km will be charged for every additional km. The night charge is 25% and it is applicable from 11 pm to 5 am. “Waiting charges at the rate of Rs 0.75 per minute shall be applicable for every minute (no limit of minimum 15 minutes as earlier when the vehicle is stationary or stuck in traffic or moving extremely slow (less than 1 km covered in 10 minutes),” the notification said.
It also said Rs 7.50 shall be charged as extra luggage charges whereas the driver or operator shall not charge any extra amount for a shopping bag or a small attachi or suitcase.
In yet another decision, the government has decided not to charge any penalty from commercial vehicles for delay in the token tax or road tax that commercial vehicles pay to the city administration every month. This will cover the April to December period of 2020.
