Expecting a snowy holiday season in Southeast Texas? Don’t. 2020 would never.

But, hopefully chilly weather will bring a little Christmas joy after a cold front passes through the region overnight.

Of course, in true Southeast Texas style, you’ll be back in shorts by Sunday.

“Temperatures dropped drastically and we will have a chilly day (Thursday) and (Friday),” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Lance Escude. “We will see warming begin Friday evening and we will see an increase in temperatures by Sunday.”

On Christmas Eve, the high in the Beaumont area will be only 52 degrees with sustained winds of 10-15 miles per hour and with gusts up to 25 miles per hour. The winds will die down as the night progresses, as will the wind advisory that’s been in effect since Wednesday night.

Temperatures will drop down into the mid 30s by Thursday night with mostly clear skies. A slight breeze from the west sets up perfect weather to devour holiday tamales and pozole before some open presents up at midnight.

For those of you who wait until the morning, Christmas Day will see slightly warmer temperatures — a foreshadowing of the rest of the week — and sunny skies with a 5 mph wind coming from the southwest.

Christmas will see a high of 59 degrees and a low of 40.

“High pressure will settle in for Christmas with cold morning lows in the near 30 north to the lower 30s south,” the National Service Weather said in a detailed weather discussion. “Temperatures will remain below normal through Friday for all areas. Southerly flow return Saturday afternoon will be the beginning of a warming trend through the start of next week.”
